Simplifying the NDIS for you
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was created by the government to make funding available to those who need basic to complex support. When you become an NDIS participant you will be able to access funds that can pay for an overnight nurse, disability transport, special aids, occupational therapy, accommodation and more.
The NDIS may seem daunting at first, but it’s really simple in that its primary goal is to help Australians living with disability to go through life independently and as comfortably as possible.

Is the NDIS Really For Me?
If you are an Australian resident or have a Protected Special Category visa and if you are between the ages of 7 and 65, you could qualify for NDIS funding. You will be eligible for funding if you have a permanent or significant disability that prevents you from completing daily activities without support. No matter what cultural or linguistic background you come from, the NDIS is here to help everyone who needs the support in a non-discriminatory way. If you envision a life beyond your disability, where you are able to function independently in society, live with a sense of fulfilment and achieve your goals, then the NDIS is definitely for you.
NDIS Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that you may have lots of questions about the NDIS and how it can help you specifically. That’s why we’ve put together this handy list of frequently asked questions to help clarify some of the most common issues for you. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please feel free to contact our team at Green Harbour Home Care and we’d be happy to answer your questions.
HOW DO I APPLY TO THE NDIS?
Apply for NDIS funding easily by calling 1800 800 110 or completing an Access Request Form. Be sure to have necessary documentation ready, such as proof of ID, proof of residence and proof of disability. Contact your Local Area Coordinator if you need help filling out the form.
HOW DO I CREATE A PLAN?
When you have been approved for NDIS funding you will be invited to a planning meeting with the NDIS, where a consultant will work closely with you to create a plan that meets your disability needs, linguistic requirements and other personal or cultural preferences.
WHO MANAGES MY FUNDS?
You can choose to be self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed. If you are self-managed, you will be in charge of keeping track of your own funds and paying your providers on time. If you are plan-managed, a registered plan-manger will take care of your payments and notify you about how much funds are available. If you are NDIA-managed, your funds will be controlled by the National Disability Insurance Agency. Green Harbour Care assists plan-managed and self-managed participants in Brisbane.
CAN I CHANGE MY PLAN?
If you have already commenced with a plan and your needs suddenly change, you can contact the NDIS or your Local Area Coordinator to ask for a plan review. Plans are usually reviewed annually to accommodate for a change in circumstances, but an exception can be made in urgent cases. Green Harbour Care will do our best to liaise with the NDIS on your behalf if you need assistance with reviewing your plan.
DO YOU PROVIDE OVERNIGHT NURSES?
We are proud to offer community nursing as one of our valued services. This includes highly experienced registered nurses that can help you with all your clinical needs such as medication administration, wound care, bowel care, hoisting and more, 24/7 or overnight.
